ISSUES
This place and this state are facing new challenges. Because of exploding insurance costs and rising tax burdens, the wonderful people in our community are facing some very tough choices. How Representatives in Tallahassee respond to these challenges may mean the difference between staying or leaving.
Going Green
Laura’s work on the Century Commission has truly proven to her the importance of planning well for our future and protecting the environment of the State of Florida. There is no other issue that arises from every constituency like the need for a high quality of life for our children to enjoy.
Education
We don’t spend our current education dollars wisely. We waste millions on programs that aren’t necessary and don’t work. A reallocation of existing resources will provide for higher teacher salaries and more money directed to the classroom. Continuing the improvements that have been realized since 1998 is a high priority and making the STUDENT the focus of our education rather than the SYSTEM of education is my greatest priority.
Property Taxes and Spending
We cannot nor should we raise taxes to solve a spending problem. The burdens on homeowners, landlords and small businesses have reached a breaking point. Every new tax means less money will be available for spending, investment and job creation. I will NOT increase the tax burden on the residents of this State! If we as residents are sitting around our kitchen tables trying to make ends meet – so must State Government.
Illegal Immigration
Blaming inaction on the part of the Federal Government is a cop-out! The State of Florida can and should pass any law it can to get a grip on illegal immigrants who break the laws of our state. We can work proactively with the Federal Government for a streamlined and valid data base to ensure workers are properly documented and we must never provide state approved documentation such as a drivers license to anyone in our country illegally.
Property Insurance
Its time to stop the name calling and threats and time instead for adults to now take the stage and get to work on ensuring the availability of affordable property insurance. We MUST have a representative in this office who can have meaningful input with either the Federal government or our region of southern states to find a way to provide for a catastrophic fund that would reduce windstorm coverage for our state.
